Chrisopher Guest explores the comedic possibilities of letting a bunch of very funny people riff on the foibles of a subculture. After spoofing rockers (This is Spinal Tap), dog lovers (Best in Show), folkies (A Mighty Wind), and local theater (Waiting for Guffman), Guest gently bites the hand that feeds him in this hilarious new satire about the movie business. 'Home for Purim' is a low-budget film about a Southern Jewish family in the 1940s, made by and starring a motley crew of nobodies and has-beens. When someone on the crew mentions reading on the internet that rumors are spreading about one actor's performance being "Oscar-worthy," the entire production goes wild with Oscar fever.
