Foothills Brass Quintet Performing at Penn State Behrend November 11, 2010

The Foothills Brass Quintet, a superb Canadian quintet dedicated to exceptional artistic presentation and meaningful educational activity, promises to offer its audience “serious fun” when it performs at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, on Thursday, Nov. 11.

The quintet appears as part of Music at Noon: The Logan Series. Its concert, which takes place at noon in the McGarvey Commons of the Reed Union Building, is free and open to the public; reserved parking in the Reed lot will be available to concertgoers.

Foothills Brass says that it uses “friendly smiles and ‘off key humour’” to draw listeners into its music. Over six CDs, the quintet has recorded a variety of genres, from Christmas music and country and western to classic brass repertoire and the music of Broadway, Beale and Bourbon streets. As a Yamaha performing ensemble, Foothills Brass presents up to 200 performances a year in concert halls and at festivals, universities, classrooms and cathedrals; Music at Noon: The Logan Series will host two performances by the quintet for students at Erie’s Diehl Elementary School.

Music at Noon: The Logan Series, an innovative program to introduce classical music in an informal atmosphere rather than an intimidating concert hall, is celebrating its 21st anniversary season. Founded at Penn State Behrend by Warren philanthropist and arts advocate Kay Logan, the series’ unique musical outreach has been honored with an Adventurous Programming Award by Chamber Music America and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. The series receives major support from the Kay Logan Trust and additional funding from the Penn State Behrend Student Activity Fee, Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts and the Erie Arts Endowment of ArtsErie.
