WMU Wind Quintet: Music of the Americas Kalamazoo Nature Center Barber Summer Music Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6 Piazzolla Milonga sin palabras Though we refer to ourselves as North, South and Central America and live in 35 different countries, we are collectively known as the New World and live on the longest north-to-south landmass on Earth. The newly reconstituted WMU Wind Quintet gives its debut performance and shows off its versatility with a sampling of works from the US, Cuba, Argentina, and Brazil. Premiered at the Detroit Institute of Arts in 1956 and inspired by the beautiful Michigan summers, Samuel Barber's Summer Music is a fitting tribute to a composer who gave us some of the most romantic American music from the 20th Century.
