David Leinweber of Oxford Georgia has played
in a wide variety of venues and musical styles,
ranging from rock, to blues, to folk, to gospel.
He has been featured twice (2006 and 2009)
as the "Flatpicking Professor" Dr. Leinweber at
the Scottish Bluegrass Association Festival in
Perth , Scotland and has also performed widely
at regional acoustic music
festivals in the South. He has shared the stage
with many fine musicians. His influences include
Dylan, Neil Young, The Dead, Clapton, Norman
Blake and Doc Watson.
Along with his lifelong interest in folk music,
classic rock and country, and hymnody
(what he calls “The Music of the People”),
Leinweber is also a songwriter in his own rite.
Silverbird is the long-time original music project
led by David Leinweber. On the heels of last
year’s successful release Silverbird comes
Silverbird II, the project’s newest endeavor.
The new disc Silverbird II features 12 new
Leinweber originals. Along with the musical
end of songwriting, Leinweber takes lyrics very
seriously and his songs on the new CD touch
on wide spectrum of topics and themes.
Around the town of Oxford , people enjoy
hearing Leinweber perform regularly with his
group The Silverbird Duo – featuring Leinweber
and fellow Silverbird Bob McMillan.
With two Martin flat-top guitars, The Silverbird
Duo plays a broad range of popular music, along
with traditional and original selections. In addition
to McMillan, the new Silverbird release Silverbird II
also features fellow musicians Scott Lansburg on
bass, Roger Crawford on pedal-steel, John Johnson on
keyboards, and George Sandler on drums.
A professor with twenty years of experience in
the college classroom, Dr. Leinweber has also
taught piano and guitar for many years. He has performed on many records, demos, and CDs
by other artists. His music has been featured on
radio and in many concerts throughout the
Atlanta area.
David prefers performing (on guitar, vocals,
mandolin, harmonica) with his duo
partner/supporting player, Bob MacMillan;
as they have many years of experience playing together. However, David is quite comfortable
with solo sets, and even pick-up jam
performances.
