Award-winning Scientist, Flying Frogs and Magnetic Fields
January 25, 2008 AUBURN: It is a wild ride when Dr. Paul Doherty, Ph. D. Director of the Teacher Institute at San Francisco's famed Exploratorium takes the stage. Dr. Doherty explores the physics of magnetism, flying frogs and magnetic fields. A masterful and magnetic teacher himself, Dr Dougherty is back by popular demand for his third lecture in Auburn to share the natural laws of attraction and repulsion.
Dr. Doherty is a physicist, teacher, author, rock climber and has been creating exhibit-based explorations in science at the Exploratorium since 1986. Magnetism can be passed from magnets to other magnetic just as Dr. Doherty's enthusiasm for science spills over the crowd.
Recipient of numerous awards in science, literature and education, Dr. Doherty has been entertaining and teaching children and adults alike for over 30 years. He has even preformed on Late Night with David Letterman.
Doherty co-wrote the Explorabook, selling over a million copies, the Book of Magnetic Magic, and the Zap book; all of which were Winners of the Scientific American Young Readers Book award.
Doherty's lecture will be opened with music from the Raspberry Jam Band who has become part of the ragtime scene in the Sacramento and Sierra foothills areas. The Band has participated in the Ragtime Corner of the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, the West Coast Ragtime Festival in Sacramento and the Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival, and has been featured at Auburn Concert Band performances. The musicians often perform at the Sacramento Ragtime Society and the Mother Lode Ragtime Society meetings.
