Flesh & Blood - ACMI Cinemas June 29, 2007

Set in medieval Western Europe, Dutch provocateur Paul Verhoeven's first U.S. film is permeated by his trademark extremes of graphic violence and unbridled sexuality. Betrayed by the king, early-16th-century mercenary Rutger Hauer and his barbaric entourage kidnap the virginal (though far from innocent), golden-tressed maiden (Jennifer Jason Leigh) promised bride to the prince (Tom Burlinson). Striking and confrontational, Flesh & Blood proceeds at an electrifying pace, splattering the audience with mud, misery, debauched appetites and grating barbaric laughter.
