Oracle11g has a range of flashback features that can be used to recover data from recent changes. Users can now flashback queries, tables, transactions and even the entire database. The seminar will discuss the use of these features and how they can be used to recover from various errors that cause inconsistency in the data, including recovering dropped tables from the recycle bin. It will also show how particular tables can be placed under lifetime audit (sometimes called total recall). Comparisons will be made with alternative techniques, showing situations in which flashback is most applicable. It will also focus on row versioning and use of the flashback_transaction_query view along with flashback transaction back out schemes. The implications for storing flashback information in flashback logs and flashback data archive table-spaces will also be discussed. The seminar will be supported with results from a wide range of tests conducted on the flashback features.
