NEW FLAMENCO DANCE CLASSES at LACC COMMUNITY SERVICES START ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH-MARCH 25 2012
Join us for great flamenco dance and guitar accompaniment classes at Los Angeles City College. The new Winter session workshop starts on Sunday February 26 through Sunday March 25, with a 2nd session (Spring session) starting on April 22nd, 2012. Classes are taught by maestra Katerina Tomás and accompanied by Stephen Dick on the guitar. Guitarists who wish to learn how to accompany dancers are welcome to join this class.
Section 1 - 1:30-3:00pm - Beginning Flamenco Dance - Learn flamenco dance techniques in this essential class, including arms/hands, footwork, rhythm/rhythmichand claps, body posture and style, marking steps, turns, and choreography. Our class choreography for this session is a combination Tangos Gitanos (Spanish Gypsy style Tangos) and Rumba Flamenca. A great and fun introduction to flamenco!
Section 2 - 3:00-4:30pm - Intermediate Flamenco Dance - Learn more challenging technique for the upper body and arms, footwork, and turns (vueltas quebradas). Class choreography: Alegrías de Cádiz - ENTIRE CHOREOGRAPHY: ENTRANCE WITH CUES: entrada/llamadas; 1ST SECTION/LETRA: beautiful choreography for the letra (song verse) and GUITAR W/DANCER SECTION: Silenco/castellana, FOOTWORK SEQUENCES: escobillas (multiple footwork sequences) and the FINALE: Bulerías de Cádiz.
Please bring hard heeled shoes with a strap to all classes (boots for men), and long, flowing skirt for women.

$60 per section + $15 per section for the guitarist's fee = $75 total for all 5 classes!
