From January 14th – 23rd, 2009, The Indian Craft Shop, located inside the U.S. Department of the Interior, salutes the 44th Presidential Inaugural with a special exhibition of Native arts and crafts that portray the American flag and/or eagles.
Flags and eagles are popular images in American Indian art, as shown in this special exhibit of arts and crafts from a variety of Native artists from across the country. The use of the U.S. flag is a symbol of pride and patriotism and the eagle can be representative of many characteristics including leadership. The eagle is also seen as a messenger by many Native peoples -- and its strength and ability to fly higher than other birds, giving it a bigger picture view of the world, is revered.
