The Old Paulite Association hosted a 5- a side football tournament for the Hill Schools at the grounds of the Dalhousie Athletic Club on Sunday, 18th of September 2011. The event which used to be a regular affair has been revived once again after a few years of inactivity.
The tournament saw an excellent turn out among the schools Alumni namely St. Joseph’s, Goethal’s Memorial School, Victoria, Mount Hermon and St. Paul’s.
St. Joseph’s, Goethal’s and St. Paul’s hosted 2 teams each, while Victoria and Mount Hermon one each. This is an indication of the enthusiastic response among the participating alumni.
All the matches were played with great enthusiasm and a spirit of camaraderie. The teams were lustily cheered on by their respective supporters who also turned out in good numbers. It was indeed heartening to see old boys, some of whom had graduated quite a few decades ago, cheering their teams.
Due to heavy overnight rains, the field was wet and muddy. However, this did not dampen the high spirits of the players and the matches were well contested. The games ended with the players emerging caked with mud and in need of a good scrub down!
Goethal’s A Team was most impressive, and won the tournament, beating a youthful team from North Point B Team in the final, who until then had looked like they would walk away with the laurels.
Lunch and drinks were hosted at the Club premises after the match, which needless to mention, turned more” spirited” by the minute and a good time was had by all.
Besides being a grand success, the event once again showcased the unique sense of brotherhood and camaraderie that all Hill Schools share amongst each other. Hopefully such events will continue to foster these ties even further.
