June 2009 events for the FIRST THURSDAY arts night include “Green 09”, the tenth annual art exhibit for Advanced Art Students and Art Majors from Rahway High School at The Arts Guild of Rahway, 1670 Irving Street. Other art exhibits include “First Name Basis” presented by the Rahway Art Hive Gallery, an artist run studio/gallery located at 43 Cherry Street; the opening of the Allison Longrum Gallery, 6:00 pm 1573 Irving Street, the grand opening of the Francesca Azzara Gallery at the Art Hub, 1573 Irving Street and Rahway’s own, artist Marcel Truppa gallery opening at 1663 Irving Street.
In the annex next to the Union County Performing Arts Center the Spanktown Theater group will present live actors and play readings beginning at 7:00 pm. The YMCA, 1564 Irving Street, offers free line dancing and instruction from 6:00-7:30 pm. Every FIRST THURSDAY from May through October, weather permitting, there is the Do Wop Classic Car show on Irving Street in front of the Union County Performing Arts Center.
While you’re in town visit the older and newer eateries for some moderately priced fine meals. The featured restaurant of the month is Beanas Mexican Restaurant on St. Georges Avenue. Visit the Hotel Indigo Lounge for drink specials and appetizers from 8:00-11:00 pm. Cubanu, located at Main and Lewis Street, offers free salsa lessons starting at 8:00 pm or stop by the Wine and Cheese special event at the Rahway Train Plaza sponsored by the RCP and RSI Bank.
