Jouan Al Dhaheri, Vice Chancellor, UAEU, His Excellency
Dr. Abdulla Al-Khanbashi, Provost, UAEU, opened
the First National Food Safety Awareness Week,
organized by the College of Food and Agriculture in
collaboration with the catering unit, from October 21-
24, 2007, at the College of Food and Agriculture Farm,
at Al Foah, Al Ain.
The objective was to create awareness about food
safety throughout the community and to
strengthen the cooperation between UAEU and other
governmental agencies, the food establishments and
the community at large.
The main activities of this First National Food Safety
Awareness Week include exhibition of booths dealing
with food safety issues such as, food safety
communication, protocols for safe food production in
the food industry, food services, and food products
from participating food industries. Information on safe
food handling, public lectures on food safety and smart
shopping will also be part of the program.


The partners in the First National Food Safety
Awareness Week are:
- Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA),
- General Authority for Health Services for the Emirate
of Abu Dhabi-Eastern Medical Region (Nutrition
Department)
- Sharjah Municipality - Food Control Lab
- Um Al Qwain Municipality – Food Control Lab
The main sponsors are the Abu Dhabi Food Control
Authority (ADFCA) and Master Foods Middle East.
With the objective to attract the public, and to create
awareness about food safety throughout the UAE
community, the event will also include a National Food
Shopping Festival and Marathon for students at the
College Farm.
