SACRED LOTUS GARDENS BY JOIE VILLENEUVE

The lotus flower symbolizes clarity of heart. It is a timeless symbol for deepmysticism and spiritual peace. The deeprootedplant emerges from the muddy
bottom of the pond, grows through dark waters and shoots up towards the sun before blossoming into an astonishingly delicate flower. Its cycle is a testimony to persistence and lasting beauty.

Joie Villeneuve navigates through the lotus chocked ponds of her imagination towards a better understanding of herself.

Born in Minnesota, The Land of 10,000 Lakes, Villeneuve has chosen to explore her own watery landscapes in these large format paintings. The vibrant canvases are bold and alive with oversized flowers in brilliant colors. In Lotus Garden 2, a myriad of flowers, seed pods and emerging seedlings cloud our view of the water. A dark, deep blue background hints at its presence but the animated plants demand the viewer’s attention in a dazzling show of colors and shapes. There is a sense of bustling activity in the pond, a unique sense of life at its most uncompromising and brave state.

Joie Villeneuve’s Sacred Lotus Gardens will be exhibited at ArtHaus66 through
January 25 th 2008.
