Southern California's largest fireworks display will take place at Newport Dunes Resort on Wednesday, July 4. Co-sponsored by the City of Newport Beach, the Dunes' 49th annual fireworks extravaganza will feature a full day of family activities highlighted by a spectacular and patriotic display launched over the tranquil waters of the Back Bay at 9 p.m. The presentation will be accompanied by a special red, white and blue musical salute to the United States Armed Forces. The fireworks are being orchestrated by Pyro Spectacular, which also orchestrated the acclaimed displays in the city's recent Centennial celebration, and additional funds have been allocated to ensure that the grand finale is the largest in the region. The cost to attend will be $30 per car.
The day's activities will begin at 11 a.m. and include carnival games, crafts, face painting, music by a DJ, hula-hoop and limbo contests, volleyball and horseshoe tournaments and drawings by a caricaturist as well as visits by Uncle Sam and resort mascot Moe B. Dunes. In addition, guests will have an opportunity to enjoy barbecue fare from various concessions or visit the award-winning Back Bay Café for al fresco dining and the Dunes' famous Back Bay seafood chowder. In keeping with recent tradition and to maintain a family atmosphere, alcohol consumption will be discouraged at the patriotic celebration, although it will be served at the Dunes' own Back Bay Cafe. Pets, water balloons, glass containers and personal fireworks will not be allowed.
