From master playwright David Mamet comes an embittered power struggle between a college professor and his seemingly innocent young female student. What starts as a simple miscommunication quickly spirals out of control leaving all to wonder who's to say where the lines between favoritism, sexual harassment, and assault really lie, and what happens when the two parties disagree? As lines of communication break down and then are obliterated all together a single question remains; once a line is crossed, can you go back?
Cast, under the direction of Brett Scott, is Tim Grant as John and Elizabeth Nodich as Carol.
David Mamet was born in Chicago; one of his first jobs was as a busboy at Chicago's The Second City. He was educated at the progressive Francis W. Parker School and at Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont. Mamet is a founding member of the Atlantic Theater Company; he first gained acclaim for a trio of off-Broadway plays in 1976, The Duck Variations, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, and American Buffalo. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1984 for Glengarry Glen Ross, which received its first Broadway revival in the summer of 2005. Oleanna premiered in May 1992 in Cambridge, Massachusetts as the first production of Mamet's new Back Bay Theater Company.
