The 10th Firetruck Night at Cruisin’ Grand in Escondido will be held Friday, Sept. 11, 2009 from 5 to 9 pm on Grand Ave at Broadway in downtown Escondido.
Fire Truck Night celebrates 1973 & older Classic American Fire Engines of yesteryear. 15 to 20 Classic Fire Engines will park on S. Broadway, then cruise down Grand with lights and bells ringing. Engines from New York City, Beverly Hills, Carlsbad, Fallbrook, San Pasqual Fire, City of Escondido, and other regional cities and private owners are joining the fun!
Kids will get free rides on the classic fire engines…a once in a lifetime thrill that happens only once a year, at Cruisin’ Grand! Escondido Firefighters with in-service equipment will be parked on N. Broadway. The 100-ft. “Tele-squirt” from the Pala Fire Dept. will display a huge American Flag. Escondido Police will have their old classic “cruisers” here as part of the show.

On site will be an historic 1919 fully restored American LeFrance (fire truck), and a1926 Le France (Old Betsy) from the City of Escondido. Old Betsy is the only unit in San Diego County that is still operational and running!
The Escondido Firefighters Association will honor the fallen firefighters from Sept. 11, at a 4 pm “Remembrance & reading of the names” ceremony at Grape Day Park on N. Broadway.

it is kind of discouraging to get the old mopar all shined up, navigate the Friday traffic , only to find that the Chevy club or other populous group has staked out all parking space on Grand and on the side streets. We called in advance and were told that parking was scarce and tickets would be written for early arrivals. We got there at 3:45 and all parking was taken. The next time we arrived at 3:30... same story. Oh well maybe next year or maybe not.
