The Young People’s Chorus of Erie will hold Fire & Ice, its third annual fund-raising Gala, on Saturday, Oct. 8
The event takes place at 6:30 p.m. at The Kahkwa Club and includes cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a performance by the YPC Erie choristers, and live and silent auctions. Tickets are $65 per person.
“Through food, decor, and the compelling voices of our young choristers, we’ll explore an enchanting time of year when the earth tones of autumn freeze into the silvery ice of winter,” Dr. D. Jason Bishop, YPC Erie founder and artistic director, said of the event. “We invite our guests to come nourish their palates, their eyes, and their souls.”
With this Gala, YPC Erie also is starting a new tradition of collectible keepsakes. Charm bracelets, charms, and money clips will be available to commemorate Fire & Ice; at subsequent fundraisers new charms and a different men’s accessory will be offered.
The 2011 Gala proceeds will help underwrite expenses related to YPC Erie’s participation in next July’s World Choir Games in Cincinnati, Ohio. Also called the Choir Olympics, the World Choir Games are held every two years. The 2012 games will take place in the United States for the first time; they’ve previously been held multiple times in Austria, China, Germany and South Korea.
World Choir Games organizers expect 20,000 singers from 70 countries to participate in the ten-day event that begins on July 4. In addition to sharing the Olympic Games’ spirit of peaceful competition among nations, the World Choir Games follows a similar organizational model, with opening and closing ceremonies, international judging panels, ticketed and free events, mascots, pin trading and central housing of participants.
Fire & Ice Gala reservations can be made through Oct. 8 by calling the Young People’s Chorus of Erie administrative office, 814-898-6789.
