According to US Boomers, senior citizens represent 12 percent of the United States population, but are 35 percent of all fraud victims.
On March 20, 2013, Appalachian Christian Village, one of the first established Continuing Care Retirement Communities in East Tennessee, will host the Director of Tennessee Consumer Affairs Division and Senior Fraud expert, Gary Cordell for the educational seminar “Hands Up, Scam Artist.”
During the event, Cordell will provide Tri-Cities area seniors and caregivers with tips on how to protect themselves against credit card fraud, identity theft and dishonest contractors. He will address what types of scams that are prevalent during each month of the year and educate attendees on how to be smarter consumers in 2013.
