MORE INFO The exhibition, EISENSTEIN: THE MEXICO YEARS (1931-1932) is sponsored by ArtOnWater gallery and includes 30 drawings from the facsimile edition entitled ?Mexican Motifs? published by Leningrad Ivan Fedorov Press in 1971 for the Association of Russian Film Makers.

Over his 25-year career, Soviet film director Serguei Mikhailovic Eisenstein was able to complete just six films, and most of these only with approved revisions and under the eyes of Stalinist censors. His major works include: Battleship Potemkin (1925), October?Ten Days That Shook The World (1927), Alexander Nevsky (1938), and Ivan The Terrible, Part 1 (1945).

His sketches, in themselves, are works of art. During this period, Eisenstein used clear lines and a surreal, flowing abstract style to create refreshingly innocent archetypes of peasants, bulls and bullfighters, indigenous peoples, as well as complex religious themes which pulse with energy.
