Filoli, a historic site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is hosting its “Daffodil Daydreams” celebration for people of all ages to enjoy the Garden’s spectacular early spring floral display with almost a million daffodils in bloom. “Daffodil Daydreams” features three days of talks, demonstrations, activities for children and families, and garden walks with horticulturalists.
Talks will be given by Catherine Watters, Filoli Instructor and Florilegium Artist; and Bob Spots, Past President of the Northern California Daffodil Society and Nancy Tucket, NCDS Member. There will be a demonstration of Cooking with Seasonal Foods by chef and Filoli Instructor, Ursula Gallichotte on February 23. Go to www.filoli.org for exact times of each presentation.
There will be a garden walk featuring a discussion on garden maintenance on February 23. On February 24, Melissa Reading, current President of the Northern California Daffodil Society, will lead a Garden Walk. There will be a Timeless Beauty of Stained Glass demonstration on February 23. There will also be Flower Arranging with Seasonal Blooms demonstrations February 22 through February 24. Artists are invited to photograph and paint in the Garden on Friday, February 22 and Sunday, February 24 when easels and tripods are welcome. Space is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are not necessary; however, space is limited for some of the programs. Go to www.filoli.org for exact times of each walk or talk.
In 2009, Filoli was selected as an American Daffodil Society Designated Display Garden, becoming the only Designated Daffodil Display Garden on the West Coast. Filoli’s collection, which represents 122 different cultivars, was chosen because its extensive daffodil collection has significant historical, public service and educational focuses.
On display in the Visitor & Education Center is the art exhibit, “Inspiring Destinations” which is a collection of watercolor paintings by Jann Pollard for Karen Brown’s Travel Guides. Karen Brown has been publishing guidebooks since 1977 and Jann Pollard has been painting and teaching since 1997.
