This event will focus on how music and sound can be used legally; where can you go if you don’t know the author of the piece of music or the musician playing the piece you have selected for your work; the steps you need to take if you want to commission a composer or orchestra to record the music for your film and the clearance requirements of different exhibition platforms – gallery, cinema, broadcast, etc.
Own-it and FLAMIN (Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network) have invited a legal expert, an artist film maker, a curator and a commissioning organisation to talk about the process of clearing rights in music and sound, and why it is so important to clear rights before any film or animation can be screened in a public space.
