To mark this year's anniversary of September 11,
we will host a screening of the documentary
"Tribute and Remembrance: Asian Americans After
9/11" instead of our regular panel presentation.
This 69 minute documentary film tells five stories
about the impacts of 9/11 in New York's Asian
American community. The film was commissioned by
the Asian American Federation of New York
(www.aafny.org) and narrated by David Henry Hwang.
The film shows the widespread impacts of the
attacks, including the loss of loved ones,
economic devastation in Chinatown and the
detention of South Asian immigrants.

Our past programs examining the post-9/11 world
have focused on the impact on civil rights and
patriotism. This year, since the current
Presidential election campaign has focused heavily
on national and domestic security, this
documentary provides useful context around the
current issues and a reminder of how some lives
have been deeply changed forever. Please join
Third Thursdays, The Chinese Historical Society of
America and the Angel Island Immigration Station
Foundation for this special screening. As usual, a
dinner (optional) and facilitated discussion will
follow.

Pricing Plan:

recommended donation w/dinner: $10, $15 or $20
recommended donation for
program and refreshments only: $5
no one will be turned away for lack of funds.
donation supports refreshments, room rental, and
any honoria or fee waivers
