from Victor Sila's Afrofunk mailing list (http://victorsila.com):
"Join us this Wednesday October 19th at Duplex on 1525 Mission Street @ 11th St and
connect! We will be screening the film, Femi Kuti: Live at the shrine.
Live At The Shrine takes place in the Kuti family's hometown of Lagos at the Africa
Shrine, where every Sunday Femi plays to a packed house of revelers. With music as his weapon
of choice and the Africa Shrine a temple of protest song, Femi continues his father
Fela's fight, railing against the corrupt Nigerian government and staunchly defending Pan
Africanis. Capturing this experience through interviews, street scenes, and the music itself,
Live At The Shrine captures the spirit, passion, and hope, of a man and a people who are
fighting.
After the screening, stay for Rhythm Nation, the VERY BEST in international music
featuring Djs from Liberia (Dj Jeremiah), Kenya (Dj Mpenzi) & special guest DJs playing
everything from Afrobeat, Hip-hop, Reggae, Salsa, Brazilian, and Asia. Guaranteed to get your
mojo fired up!
When: Wednesday, October 19th. 8:30 pm
Where: Duplex
