Directed by Vittorio DeSica, this film is the story of an Italian woman who marries Marcello Mastroianni 12 days before the outbreak of WWII. With no desire to fight, Mastroianni tries to fake insanity to avoid the draft. However, his ploy is soon discovered and he is sent to the Russian front. During the fighting, Mastroianni is found half-dead by a Russian girl whom is marries leaving his actual wife waiting in vain for his return. Tired of waiting, his real wife goes to Russia where she discovers her Mastroianni with his new wife. Heartbroken, she returns to Italy where she remarries and has a son. In the meantime, Mastroianni longs for her and returns to Italy to discuss a reconciliation. The film is in Italian with English subtitles.
