FILM ARTS FOUNDATION’S TRUE STORIES DOCUMENTARY SERIES ANNOUNCES THE SCREENING OF AWARD WINNING NEW DOCUMENTARY RED WITHOUT BLUE
BY FILMMAKERS BROOKE SEBOLD, BENITA SILLS, AND TODD SILLS

Now in its 11th year, True Stories continues to bring the best of local documentary filmmaking to the big screen with RED WITHOUT BLUE by the team of Brooke Sebold, Benita Sills, and Todd Sills. RED WITHOUT BLUE, winner of The Audience Choice Award at the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival, will be screened on Wednesday, May 16st at 7:30 p.m. in the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Screening Room, 701 Mission Street at Third.

Tickets are $8/$6 (seniors, students, teachers, Film Arts Foundation or YBCA members) and are available at www.ybca.org or 415-978-ARTS.

In 1983, Mark and Alexander Farley were born just minutes apart as identical twin boys. Twenty-three years later, Mark is apartment hunting with his boyfriend in San Francisco, and Alex is living as a woman named Clair. RED WITHOUT BLUE is a heartbreaking yet optimistic look at the tribulations of growing up gay and transgender in rural Montana and maintaining strong family bonds in the face of adversity.

Captured over a period of three years, RED WITHOUT BLUE, whose title refers to the respective colors that each twin wore as a child to distinguish between the two, follows the twins and their parents, documenting the Farley's struggle to redefine their family. This visually arresting documentary chronicles their close yet sometimes strained relationship. Through its portrayal of the twins, each haunted by the painful experiences of their adolescence, the film questions normative standards of gender and identity - as Mark and Clair reassert their indescribable bond as identical twins.

RED WITHOUT BLUE is the winner of the Audience Choice Award at the Slamdance Film Festival, and the Audience Choice Award at the Queer Arts Film Festival. Directors Brooke Sebold, Todd Sills and Benita Sills have been producing and editing in San Francisco's documentary film community for the last four years. RED WITHOUT BLUE is their first feature length project.

"Film Arts Foundation’s once-a-month ‘True Stories’ screening series has established itself as the place to see the cool new indie documentaries first…a must for all documentary film buffs."
