This 2011 film tells the moving story of Detroit’s spontaneous emergence of urban farming. Limited to the lifeless offerings of fast food and minimarts, Detroiters work to fulfill their vision for locally-grown, sustainably- farmed food. Malik Yakini, farmer and Chair of the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network, and Riet Schumack, a resident and community organizer involved with Neighbors Building Brightmoor and the Brightmoor Youth Gardens, lead a discussion after the screening.
