Akemi Nakano Cohn Focus on creating your original silk backing airy felt scarves and then shibori the material. First students explore how to make airy Nuno felt combing already carded Merino wool roving and silk. Wool shrinks and turns to felt after vigorously rubbing with soapy water. Shibori is then applied to the interesting puckered effect created from the wool felting and silk combination: shibori is a resist dyeing technique using acid dyes to produce bright colors and patterns.SupppliesList for Students to bring to first class:-sketch book, pencil, notebook-large towel (e.g. bath towescissors-2 plastic containers (e.g. 16 oz. yogurt container)-1 small bucket-3-4 sponges-1 measuring cup or any plastic cup-several different sizes of plastic bags (to take wet fabric home)
