Cristina García Rodero, born in Puertollano, Spain, in 1949, takes photographs that are in equal measure documents and works of art. She has created a unique and voluminous archive of Spain's rural festive traditions and now travels the world to photograph festive and ritual moments of great intensity. The Getty Center has the largest publicly available collection of her images, which have been collected by major museums throughout the world. Rodero joins William A. Christian Jr., visiting professor of history at the University of California, Berkeley, to show her current work on festivals and other moments of extreme emotion and ecstasy around the world.

Complements Saints, Humans, Animals: Exploring the Boundaries in Spanish Fiestas through the Photographs of Cristina García Rodero, a scholarly seminar on March 2.
