What began as a small community event several years ago is now a Coast-wide tradition. The annual Festival of Lights at the Perkinston Campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is set for Friday, Dec. 5, 4:30-9 p.m., and it promises fun for the entire family. The event will feature a silent auction, art shows, a children’s parade, pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, horse and buggy rides, a live nativity, outdoor movies, and musical entertainment.
Children in preschool to 5th grade can join the celebration by participating in the Children’s Christmas Parade at 5:30 p.m., which will feature Gulf Coast’s Band of Gold drum line and Perkettes Dance Team. Participating youngsters should line up at 5 p.m. in the Darby Hall parking area. Children may wear Christmas attire for the parade. They may decorate and ride in a non-gasoline powered vehicle, such as a wagon, golf cart, scooter, skate, bicycle or battery-operated vehicle, or they may march with their favorite group.
For more information about the festival, contact Tammie Weathers, (601) 928-6317. For more information about the parade, contact Michelle Sekul, (601) 928-6267.
