Larry “Poncho” Brown Featured at 14th Annual Festival Noir

Nationally renowned African American painter Larry “Poncho” Brown will be the featured artist at Festival Noir 2006. He will join Paul Goodnight, Woodrow Nash, and many other artists and artisans from around the country in the 14th annual showcase and sale of Afrocentric fine arts and hand crafted products on December 9th and 10th at the John B. Hynes Convention Center. Shoppers will “meet and greet” the artists, learn about their techniques, and do holiday shopping with Afrocentric flair. Products include: fine art, sculpture, hand crafted dolls, Afrocentric home accessories, art-to-wear, Kwanzaa gifts and cards, jewelry, rare and contemporary books, ceramics, and glassware.
Festival Noir 2006 is produced by Festival Noir Management, an African American women-owned business based in Massachusetts. Managing Director and co-founder Michelle Davis Petelinz says, “We’re excited to have Poncho Brown and Woodrow Nash with us this year. Their work is exceptional, and will appeal to a wide range of customers.” Exhibits Manager Joyce A. Stamps agrees, saying, “Neither artist has been part of a Boston art show, so we’re proud they’ve chosen Festival Noir.”
Each year, Festival Noir requests ‘Noir Angel’ donations of toys or warm clothing to benefit a New England-based charity. This year’s beneficiary will be the Bessie Tartt Wilson Children’s Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to improve childhood development for children in early care with the greatest need, by supporting and empowering families and educators through research, advocacy, and culturally rich education.
