On the day of St Lucy, a traditional market is held in front of the church. Sweets, Christmas presents for the children and the traditional terracotta bells are on sale. The area used to be a pottery handcrafts area until the Middle Age.
In the church, services are held throughout the day and the typical blessed bread is given to the faithfuls. Due to the martyrdom of Santa Lucia, whose eyes were ripped off, this is supposed to protect the health of your eyes.
Packed with locals, this is one of the few traditional celebration in honour of a church and its saint still alive and deeply felt by the people of the city.
