The artwork in this show highlights Lisa Reinke's interest in facial features and characteristics. The work challenges the way we see the human face and our traditional ideas of portraiture. Lisa enjoys painting portraits in which the viewer recognizes himself, someone, everyone and no one. Says Lisa "I consider it a success if someone tells me the painting reminds them of Aunt Claire, their neighbor's son, or themselves during a period of their life. I also enjoy it when they start a relationship with the person in the painting. For example, everyone befriends the woman in "The Smile." That is something I love about figurative and portrait art."
Lisa Reinke loves to play with facial features in her oil paintings. Her artist statement asks the viewer to "Celebrate color in the shape of a nose, the curve of the ears, the mask of the eyes, and the lines of the lips and hair. Most of all, remember the humanity in humanity."
The opening reception for "Features" is March 17th, 2006 from 6-8 pm. The art show is on view March 17 - April 14, 2006. The exhibition is located in Newmarket's historic mill building, Rivermoor Landing at 125 Main Street, Suite C, Newmarket, NH. Hours are M-F: 10-1 and 3-6.
