From the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival
Set in 1944, this epic adaptation of the novel by Nobel Prize-winner Imre Kertész is the semi-autobiographical tale of a 14-year-old Jewish boy swept up by the Holocaust. When he returns after liberation, he feels alienated from Christian neighbors and Jewish family friends who want to put the war behind them.
Director: Lajos Koltai. 2005. 140 min. In theaters January 6th.
Featuring a post-screening discussion with professor Thane Rosenbaum.
