FanFaire Foundation, a San Diego County-based nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing public understanding and appreciation of music and science will present a FREE family concert featuring winners (Divisions 1 and 2) of the 2011 Annual Concerto Competition held by the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC - San Diego) on April 8 (Friday, 2:30 p.m.) and April 10 (Sunday, 2:30 p.m.) at the Crivello Hall, Francis Parker School (6501 Linda Vista Road). The concert is a special opportunity for the winners to perform with Greater San Diego Community Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Angela Yeung.
Ten-year old Michael Chen will play the third movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in C, Op. 15 and Adrian Liu (age 13) will perform the first movement of Mozart's Piano Concerto in D minor, K. 466. It is interesting to note that both winners, who will be playing with an orchestra for the first time, love both music and mathematics - young examplars of the creativity born from the convergence of science and music. Mozart's Jupiter Symphony rounds up the concert program. The Greater San Diego Community Orchestra is co-presenting the event with FanFaire Foundation. Admission is FREE. Tax-deductible $10 suggested donation at the door.
