FanFaire Foundation, a San Diego County-based nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing public understanding and appreciation of music and science will present the Greater San Diego Community Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Angela Yeung in a FREE family concert on March 26, 2011 (Saturday, 3:00 p.m.) at the San Diego Science Festival Expo Day in PETCO Park in downtown San Diego,
The event entitled "Adventures in Science and Music" underscores the creativity born from the convergence of science and music. The orchestra, composed of experienced amateur musicians, many of whom have separate careers in science, will play a concert program with a strong science flavor. It starts off with the Polovtsian Dances from Prince Igor by Alexander Borodin, the great Russian composer and renowned Professor of Organic Chemistry who was among the co-founders of the Russian Chemical Society along with Mendeleev, the father of the Periodic Table of The Elements, which not coincidentally is the subject of the fun piece that follows. The program (subject to change without notice) will also include the rhythmically ticking movement from Haydn's "Clock Symphony" and science-themed pieces played and sung to the tune of pop songs.
