Fandanguero is the name of a hummingbird species that inhabits the woods in Veracruz, Mex. and it is from this concept that the group derives its name. Since 2001, some members of this Chicago-based ensemble have interpreted a 350 year-old genre originating in Veracruz. They have cultivated their own personal style after having participated in other local projects such as Tarima (son jarocho), Son del Viento (son jarocho), Efata (a tribute to Rage Against the Machine), and Ofrenda (pre ? colombian music). Presently, they have come together as Fandanguero to interpret the fusion of their collective experience, interweaving several rhythms from Cuban son, to Afro-Peruvian Festejo, along with hints of samba and flamenco. These rhythms have brought together friends from diverse musical backgrounds from Pilsen, a south-side Chicago neighborhood.
