Emergency Communities is a non-political, non-profit, all-volunteer
disaster relief organization that is:

? Providing rapid, effective, and community-based relief to help
rebuild lives
? Uniting compassionate people from outside with the stricken
community to work together for recovery
? Allowing affected communities to identify their own needs and shape
the nature of relief efforts

Emergency Communities is entering its fourth month of operations in
the devastated community of St. Bernard Parish, just outside New
Orleans' Lower 9th Ward. We've served over 100,000 hot, healthful
meals and continue to enable other volunteer groups and residents to
move forward with rebuilding their lives. We are also planning to open
a new kitchen in Plaquemines Parish, where the eye of Katrina first
made landfall and submerged large swaths of land for over 30 days. The
recovery effort there has been stalled, and we are excited to provide the
support that will allow this community to bring itself back together.
