The conference will explore the issues between faith and sexual orientation in the higher education environment. This comes after a series of high profile cases which have demonstrated the need for coherent approaches to addressing coexistence between faith groups and members of the LGBT community, including those who are members of both.
Conference Aims:
· Investigate the inter-sectionality of faith and sexual orientation primarily within a Higher Education Institution (HEI) context but also incorporating the experiences of other relevant sectors.
· Suggest ways in which students both Home and International can be supported in reconciling these two areas.
· Explore how we can support bringing the integration of these two areas in the relevant area of academic curriculum.
· Create a safe space for discussion around the issues of faith and sexual orientation.
· Consider how we can champion freedom of speech and support our LGBT staff/students and staff/students of faith.
· Build an online resource bank, which will offer advice and guidance on issues arising from the interaction between faith and sexual orientation.
