Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Peter O’Toole) and Harry Houdini (Harvey Keitel) are believer and skeptic in this charming film based upon the story of the Cottingley Fairies, supposedly real supernatural beings photographed by two children in 1917. The incident, which the perpetrators later admitted was faked, fascinated the public and brought to light two very different attitudes to the spiritual world. Directed by Charles Sturridge. (1997, 99 min. Rated PG. Screened from 35 mm print.)
