American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), KC Iraq Task Force and
other local groups will open a week-long memorial exhibit honoring
the lives of more than 900 U.S. soldiers and 20,000 Iraqi civilians
and soldiers killed during the Iraq War and occupation. The traveling
exhibit is entitled "Eyes Wide Open-Beyond Fear, Towards Hope" and
started in Chicago's Federal Plaza with 500 pairs of boots in January
and will continue growing as the death toll continues to rise.
The exhibit will be displayed October 8-14, 2004 at the Kansas City,
Missouri Central Library, 14 West 10th Street. There are several
visuals in the exhibit, including more than nine hundred pairs of
combat boots bearing nametags of fallen U.S. soldiers and a 24-foot
"wall" of names and incidents of Iraqi civilian deaths confirmed
during the conflict.
