Eyes for Consuela June 6, 2009

A play by Sam Shepard based on Octavio Paz's "The Blue Bouquet." Henry abandons his wife in Michigan and travels to a remote part of Mexico. There a one-eyed innkeeper, Viejo, warns him to remain indoors. Instead Henry sets out into the wilderness, only to be attacked by a man named Amado, who tells Henry he is going to cut out his eyes to present as a "bouquet of blue eyes" for his beloved Consuela. The only problem is that Henry's eyes are brown.
