Silk Road Theatre Project presents "Scorched", a play by Wajdi Mouawad, translated by Linda Gaboriau and directed by Dale Heinen.

Carried aloft by poetic language and evocative imagery, "Scorched" unfolds in a dreamlike atmosphere connecting the origins of one family in startling and unforgettable ways. A brother and sister raised in
Quebec must return to their mother's war-torn country to carry out her last wishes - finding the father and brother they never knew they had. There, they encounter stories of war, courage and abuse that might fill in the pieces of their own fractured identities and the mother they hardly knew.

Theatrical productions of "Scorched" (Fr: "Incendies") have received acclaim across North America. J. Kelly Nestruck of The Globe and Mail wrote "This haunting work may be the best piece of theatre this country has produced this millennium.” "Incendies" is now a film, screening at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival.

Playwright Wajdi Mouawad was awarded the Governor General's Award in Literature for drama in 2000. In 2002, the French Government bestowed upon him the title of Knight of the Ordre National des Arts et des Lettres for the collection of his works. In 2009, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada "for his contributions as a writer, actor, stage director and playwright known internationally for the quality and scope of his theatrical creations". Mouawad is currently the Artistic Director of the National Arts Centre's French Theatre in Ottawa.
