This monthly lecture series, based on our popular 'Unburied Treasures' program, is presented during the run of The Orient Expressed. Each month features a guest speaker who discusses artwork from and themes found within the exhibition. The 45-minute lecture is complemented by a related reading or performance. The speaker for April is Petra ten-Doesschate Chu, Ph.D., who presents 'The Orient in Ostend: James Ensor's Paintings of Chinoiseries.' Candis Pizzetta, Ph.D. reads Ezra Pound's 'The River-Merchant's Wife: A Letter,' which is based on the first of Li Po's 'Two Letters from Chang-Kan,' and discusses the influence of Chinese and Japanese poetry on Pound and other writers.
