Exploring the Future of Biofuels September 25, 2008

Join the International Association of Nanotechnology and the Clean Tech Institute on Thursday, September 25, as we explore the future of biofuel as well as the use of novel technology to improve the yield and productivity of biofuel fermentation.

Topics of discussion include the production of biobutanol as a gasoline substitute, engineering microbial strains for converting a given plant material to alcohol fuels and the balance between the supply and demand of local and regional non-food plant materials. The latest research and development methods for the cost-effective production of biofuel will also be discussed.

Guest speaker Pamela R. Contag is the CEO of Cobalt Technologies, Inc., a venture-backed company founded in 2005 to develop technology for the production of biofuels. Prior to founding Cobalt Technologies, Dr. Contag founded Xenogen Corporation in 1995, served as President and Founder at Xenogen from 1995 to 2006 and concurrently as CEO of Xenogen Biosciences from 2000-2006, when Xenogen merged with CaliperLS.

With more than 25 years of microbiology research experience, Dr. Contag is widely published in the field of non-invasive molecular and cellular imaging.

During the Nano Lunch, IANANO will also present a brief overview of its clean tech/nanotech training programs and resources. Cost is $10/non-members; free to members.
