Explore the Birth of the Cool
Thursday, May 15, 6:30–8:30pm
Join DWR in celebrating The Birth of the Cool: California Art, Design and Culture at Mid-century, an exhibit opening at the Oakland Museum of California on May 17. Birth of the Cool examines the broad cultural zeitgeist of “cool” that influenced the visual arts, graphic and decorative arts, architecture, music and film produced in California in the 1950s and early 1960s, and DWR is proud to be a sponsor. On May 15, Philip E. Linhares, the museum’s chief curator of art, will be in the Studio for a presentation on the importance and provenance of the interdisciplinary exhibit.
“It’s about a culture based on preparing for the future – new products, new designs, new ways of living in the post-war economic boom,” says Linhares. “People will take away a deeper appreciation of the culture of California.”
