From the dense, lush grounds of the Big Thicket in the east to the vast, mountainous deserts in the west; from the verdant Hill Country to the beautiful blue waters off South Padre Island, Texas is not only one of the most beautiful states in the nation but also one of the most biologically diverse. Within its distant boundaries live more than 4,500 species of plants, 28,000 species of insects, 600 species of birds and 181 species of mammals. Instructor Glenn Olsen will explore the distinctive geographical and biological characteristics that make Texas such an ecologically unique region and provide an in-depth look at the abundant opportunities to connect with nature in the upper Texas Gulf Coast.
Note: This course is approved for advanced training credit for the Texas Master Naturalist program and will provide a solid foundation for participation in such certification programs as the Texas Master Naturalist, Master Gardener and Habitat Certification programs.
