Russia produced some of the most inspiring literature the world has ever known. It was a multifaceted literature steeped in contradictions, mysticism and beauty. The prodigious achievements of nineteenth-century Russia with its Golden Age of Pushkin, Gogol, Turgenev, Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky culminated in Chekhov and the explosion of the Modernist movement in the twentieth century, in which writers such as Mayakovsky, Akhmatova, Pasternak and, later, the young Nabokov revolutionised the artistic sense of the entire world. Through seminars, discussions, slides and videos, this course looks closely at richness, variety and beauty of Russian literature. Details of this event may be subject to change.
