Exhibition Rayimages - Artworks & photographs by Satyajit Ray. For the first time ever in the world, a large exhibition of Ray's artworks and photographs, which form a significant part of the society's archive. Satyajit Ray was not merely a filmmaker. Apart from having a complete mastery over all areas of filmmaking, Ray was an author, essayist, editor of a magazine for children, lyricist, music composer, typographer and artist. And the last but not the least, he was also a consummate photographer whose output of still photographs was as large and impressive as it was rich in its variety. The exhibition apart, the Satyajit Ray Society plans a weeklong Satyajit Ray Festival entitled RAY TODAY on May 3, and May 5-10, 2009 to mark the 88th birth anniversary of the man . The festival featuring music from his films, plays based on his stories, films by and/or on him, a debate on his heritage, and quiz contests on his life and work, will be held at the grounds and the auditorium of Birla Academy of Art & Culture, as well as the Star theatre. An exhibition of costume designs Ray made for his films will be held at the spacious foyer of Star.
