Mediamatic sounds the alarm on the drop in subsidies for e-culture with a new exhbition called Me! Me! Me! We will be supported by the activist and fashion collective Andrea Crews from Paris. From 18 July till 14 September 2008 they will transform a huge pile of second hand clothing into new colourful fashion items - and the audience can join. With a special opening performance by Andrea Crews in our new location at the Vijzelstraat in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on Friday 18 July 2008, 20.00 hrs.
The new location is dominated by a huge pile of recycled clothing, sewing machines, Fong Leng dresses for inspiration, shows, performances and workshops. The old ABN bank at the Vijzelstraat 68 in Amsterdam will be transformed into a World Fashion Centre.
Me! Me! Me! is an interactive exhibition on self representation on the internet and fashion. On the far reaching consequences of modern communication and on our self image and the way we experience the world around us. The exhibition also highlights our own cultural potential with a minimal ecological footprint. Poverty is ECO!

Mediamatic doesn't take no for an answer
The (e-)culture institution Mediamatic is active on the edge of new media, art and society. The survival of Mediamatic is seriously threatened. A 66% cut in subsidies is looming for the institution that succesfully launched the Arabic El HEMA project. Despite a very positve advice of the national Council for Culture Mediamatic is likely to stick to a subsidy of 229.000 euro, instead of the 666.000 euro that was originally advised by the Council for Culture.
But we don't take a no for an answer and take direct action:
• On 28 and 29 June Mediamatic gives away all it's books, and asks the public to take care of the books (distributed library),
• For the new exhibition Mediamatic dresses the visitors in rags but nevertheless teaches them to look good.
• After the summer Mediamatic starts with a global travel agency to the Cultural Underground.
