Evolution of Afro-Cuban Music November 30, 2005

In correlation with the landmark Slavery in New York exhibition that will run until March 2006, The New-York Historical Society presents an all-star concert. It will explore and celebrate the music that resulted from the introduction of enslaved African peoples to the Caribbean Islands. The concert ranges from re-creations of the earliest known performance pieces, including original instrumentation in and about Cuba, through contemporary Latin jazz as it has subsequently made its way to, and evolved, in the U.S. Featuring world renowned artists: David Amram, multiple wind instruments; Candido, percussion; Arturo O'Farrell, piano; Paul Peress, percussion/drums; Ruben Rodriguez, bass.
